On Breathing.

On Breathing: Breathing and Meditation go along with Yoga. They are like Siamese Twins. Breathing is a continuous process from the time of one's birth till his death. With foresight, when Yogis, thousands of years ago gifted us with Yoga and laid down rules and methods for ideal yoga practice, they have prescribed similar systems and procedures for breathing also. This being so, it is my wild thinking that these yogis would have advised their succeeding generations, the method of the right kind of breathing and taught them also to breathe slowly as a matter of caution. In a lighter vein if I may say, the word of caution may be just to instil in the mind of all, that at the time of our birth, all have been alloted a certain number of respirations, and that the life of one would last till the capital number of respirations alloted to him is over and not more than that. Had we all known this magic figure at the time of birth and inherited the belief of using breathing spareingly, perhaps how careful we would have been to breathe slowly right from our birth and try to lengthen the duration of our life! Better late than never, without regretting, I think one should take to yogic breathing along with yoga. Sudharshan Kriya--Rythmic Breathing--is a very powerful tool for daily living. It is simple to learn and easy to practice and the benefits one derive from it are immeasurable. It is also highly rewarding. In conclusion it must be said that to breathe is to live, and to breathe slowly is to live long, and enjoy good health. These few lines are only to lay stress on the importance of correct breathing.
